Insanely Great Science

Social Networking

There is an interesting poll on MacResearch looking at the use of social networks by scientists.

It is early days yet but Twitter and Facebook look to be the most popular, followed by LinkedIn and ResearchGate. There are also a number of people who are sceptical about the usefulness of such networks. I use LinkedIn and have found it very useful for keeping track of ex-colleagues as they change jobs and for making contact with people.

The issues of confidentiality must limit the utility of public networks, I wonder if any research organisations have implemented internal solutions?
